(CBS) The Bears have placed offensive lineman Manny Ramirez on the reserve/retired list.

The 33-year-old Ramirez had signed with Chicago in late March. He had appeared in 83 games, making 65 starts, over eight seasons with the Lions and Broncos.

Ramirez was signed to provide depth on the offensive line, so his exit further paves the way for rookie guard Cody Whitehair to win a starting spot. Interior offensive lineman Ted Larsen is also in the mix still to push Whitehair and second-year center Hroniss Grasu.
