Bullet Hole Found Near Popular Lakefront Recreation Spot

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A bullet hole is found in a very disturbing place, at a popular spot for walking, running, biking and tennis along Chicago's lakefront.

The hole can be seen on the side of the Tennis on the Lake pro shop trailer, in the 3600 block of North Recreation Drive.

"It's a little nerve wracking, that that kind of activity, is happening on the lakefront in the parks," pro shop owner Peter Lutze told CBS 2's Suzanne LeMignot.

Lutze says the bullet entered the trailer where somebody would have been sitting during business hours.

"If somebody was at the computer inside, it literally went three inches above the monitor. If somebody was sitting there, it would have gone right through them."

The bullet exited the back wall of the pro shop trailer. Lutze discovered the bullet holes Saturday evening. Shell casings were found on the nearby bike shop deck, about 200 feet away.

Lutze says he thinks the bullet entered the trailer on Friday night or sometime during the day, Saturday. There was also a shooting, right outside the tennis court area here, on Saturday night.

"Hopefully with more police patrols, you know, it becomes a safer environment for people out here," Lutze said.
