CPS Students Counter Orlando Tragedy With Song

(CBS) -- A group of Chicago high school students paid tribute to the victims of the Orlando massacre.

CBS 2's Sandra Torres shows us how they raised their voices in song.

Inside Lindblom Math and Science Academy, students worked on a special tribute, a performance more meaningful than any class assignment.

They spoke out with the song "I Need You To Survive."

It wasn't just this school. Students from four other Chicago public schools joined the mission.

"It really does warm the heart to see people, other teachers taking the time out of their last few days of class to put together something so meaningful," says Carolyn Boudreaux, music arts teacher at Lindblom.

The end result is a video now being shared on YouTube with all five schools performing the song to honor the victims of Orlando's shooting.

"To see someone else go through the same pain that Chicago feels every single week I can empathize with that," 10th grader Diamond Arrington says.

The students are thankful to their choir director for encouraging them to do the song. They call it a performance they'll never forget.
