Blackhawks' Patrick Kane Wins Hart Trophy As NHL MVP

(CBS) Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane's brilliant season has been rewarded with the highest individual honor.

Kane, 27, was awarded the Hart Trophy as the NHL's MVP in a ceremony in Las Vegas on Wednesday night. The honor followed after Kane submitted a career year in which he recorded 106 points, 17 more than anyone else in the league. He became the first American-born player to lead the NHL in scoring.

Kane's 46 goals ranked second in the NHL, while his 60 assists were the third-most. His nine game-winning goals were the second-most, and Kane also appeared in all 82 games for Chicago.

Additionally, Kane was named winner of the Ted Lindsay Award as the NHLPA's MVP.

Jamie Benn of the Dallas Stars and Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins were the other Hart Trophy finalists.

One of Kane's linemates who helped make his season possible also took home some hardware. Blackhawks winger Artemi Panarin won the Calder Trophy as the top rookie, beating out Connor McDavid of the Oilers and Shayne Gostisbehere of the Flyers.

Panarin's 77 points ranked ninth in the league and led all rookies. He also had seven game-winning goals and played in 80 games.

Panarin and Kane flanked Artem Anisimov on Chicago's second line, forming arguably the most dangerous three-man unit in the league.

The Blackhawks fell to the Blues in seven games in the first round.
