UPDATE: Eight Tornadoes Hit Illinois During Wednesday's Powerful Storms
(CBS/AP) -- The National Weather Service says it's determined at least eight tornadoes hit Illinois amid powerful storms that swept across the Upper Midwest.
The service says EF2 tornadoes with estimated top wind speeds of 115-125 mph hit Pontiac and Seneca on Wednesday night. Survey teams determined that EF1 tornadoes with maximum winds up to 110 mph hit Cissna Park, West Brooklyn, Ottawa, Troy Grove and an area 5 miles northwest of Ottawa.
An EF0 tornado with top wind speeds of 85 mph hit Mazon.
No one was killed. The Pontiac tornado injured seven people.
In that downstate community, Michelle Matusiak hid in the bathroom of a Shell gas station to avoid the force of the tornado.
"We are really insignificant compared to Mother Nature," she tells CBS 2's Jeremy Ross. "We're tiny little pawns on a chess board. Mother Nature can just sweep us up at any time."
