Suspect Charged In Woman's Stabbing Death On Red Line Train
(STMW) -- Bond was denied Saturday for a man charged with fatally stabbing a woman on a CTA Red Line train Thursday afternoon on the South Side.
Arthur S. Jones, 29, faces first-degree murder charges for the slaying of 25-year-old Jessica Hampton about 12:30 p.m. on a southbound train near 47th Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Jones stabbed the woman in the neck during an apparent argument over a child, police allege.
Hampton, of the 6600 block of South Laflin, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:15 p.m., authorities said.
Passengers on the train called 911, and Jones was arrested at the 47th Street station by an officer who happened to be nearby, police said.
"This is domestic in nature," First Deputy Supt. John Escalante said Thursday. "We're sure of that."
Jones, who lives in the 5300 block of South Carpenter, is also charged with aggravated battery of a police officer and attempting to disarm an officer, according to Cook County Circuit Court records. A judge ordered him held without bond Saturday, and he is due in court again Monday.
