CHICAGO (CBS) — July 4th is coming up, and you can’t have a great party without some great drinks. That’s why we’re showing you how to make festive Independence Day cocktails. Mixologist Daniel Rook, who also happens to be competing in a national bartending contest, gave us some great ideas.

Blue Gin and Tonic:

2oz Bombay Sapphire Gin
Over ice in Collins glass
Fill with tonic
2 dashes of Thai pea flower extract

Say Wha?

2oz Bombay Sapphire Gin
3/4 oz lime juice
3/4 oz chili agave syrup
1 spring of tarragon
1/4 of an Avacado
Muddle all ingredients in shaker tin
Add ice
Shake vigorously
Pour up
Garnish with fresh ground pepper

Watermelon Banana Gimlet

2oz Bombay Sapphire Gin
3/4oz lime juice
3/4 oz watermelon banana shrub*
Shake vigorously
Pour up
Garnish with mint leaf
