(CBS) The Cubs are looking for a boost to their bullpen, and they’ve called up veteran right-hander Joel Peralta to help.

Peralta, 40, has appeared in 26 games this season, all with the Mariners. He was signed by the Cubs earlier this month. To make room on the roster, the Cubs sent left-hander Gerardo Concepcion to Triple-A Iowa.

Peralta has a 4.00 ERA in his 12-year major league career. He has a 5.40 ERA this season.

Additionally, catcher Tim Federowicz cleared waivers and was sent back to Iowa.

The Cubs and Reds open a three-game series Monday in Cincinnati, with Jake Arrieta on the mound. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. CT from Great American Ball Park.
