Two Charged With Armed Robberies In University Village

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men have been accused of robbing a Subway restaurant and 7-Eleven store at gunpoint earlier this month in the University Village neighborhood.

Michael Hayes, 54, of the 500 block of East 77th Street and Tyrone Cole, 47, of the 7700 block of South Calumet Avenue, each were charged with two felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm, the FBI announced Wednesday.

They held up the Subway at 1252 S. Halsted St. on June 7, and then the 7-Eleven at 1359 S. Halsted St. on June 22, authorities allege.

The duo is suspected in other recent robberies in the area and more charges could be handed down, police said.

They were arrested in the city Tuesday and appeared in court Thursday, where bond was set at $300,000 for Hayes and $400,000 for Cole, according to the Cook County sheriff's office. Both men are due in court again July 5.
