Cubs Call Up 3B Jeimer Candelario

(CBS) The Cubs have called up third baseman Jeimer Candelario from Triple-A Iowa and placed outfielder Chris Coghlan on the 15-day disabled list with a rib injury.

The 22-year-old Candelario will start at third base and hit sixth in Monday afternoon's game against the Mets. It will mark his major league debut.

Candelario was hitting .333 with three homers, 15 RBIs and a 1.052 OPS in 25 games at Triple-A.

"A switch-hitter with pop," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. "Very exciting."

Coghlan was hitting .194 in 19 games for the Cubs this season.
