Two Killed, At Least 22 Wounded In Chicago Shootings This Weekend
(STMW) -- Two people were killed and at least 22 others were wounded in weekend shootings in Chicago.
Late Friday, three people were shot — one fatally — in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.
The three were shot while standing on the sidewalk in the 500 block of North Lavergne about 11:40 p.m., according to Chicago Police.
Leander E. Winford II, 59, was shot in the right arm and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:38 a.m. Saturday, police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said. He lived in the 2200 block of South 14th Avenue in Broadview.
A 17-year-old boy was shot in the left leg and a 32-year-old man was shot in the left arm and leg, police said. They were both taken to Stroger Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized.
A 22-year-old man was fatally shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side Friday night.
Kendall Smith, of the 11200 block of South Indiana, was standing on the sidewalk in the 11200 block of South Michigan about 9:30 p.m. when he heard gunfire and felt pain, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 10:58 p.m., authorities said.
Most recently, three people were shot Saturday afternoon in the Calumet Heights neighborhood on the South Side. The three males were shot about 2:20 a.m. near 93rd and Stony Island Avenue, according to preliminary information from police. Their ages were not immediately known. One of them was shot in the arm, another was shot in the thigh and the third was shot in the hand. All three were taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where their conditions were stabilized.
About five minutes before that, a man was shot in the face in the Burnside neighborhood on the South Side. The 21-year-old was in an argument with someone in the 500 block of East 88th Place at 2:15 p.m. when the other person pulled out a gun and shot him in the chin, police said. His condition has since been stabilized, although it was not immediately clear which hospital he was taken to.
A man walked into a West Side hospital Saturday morning with a graze wound. The 30-year-old man walked into Norwegian American Hospital with a graze wound to the arm at 8:53 a.m., according to police. His condition was stabilized. He told investigators he had been shot in the 1300 block of North Washtenaw. A police source said the man, who is a documented gang member, was being uncooperative with investigators. No crime scene was found in the block where he said the shooting occurred.
About 3:10 a.m., a 24-year-old man was at a party inside a residence in the 5400 block of South Winchester when he heard shots and realized he'd been hit in the left knee, according to police. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Fifteen minutes earlier, two men were shot in the Wicker Park neighborhood. The two were standing on the sidewalk in the 1500 block of North Milwaukee when they heard gunfire and realized they were shot, according to police.
One man, 26, was shot in the right leg and taken to Stroger Hospital. The other man, 22, was taken to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center with a graze wound, also to his right leg, police said. Their conditions had both stabilized.
At least 12 other people have been shot on the South and West sides since 4 p.m. Friday.
