Church Embraces Being A Stop Along 'Pokémon Go' Highway

(CBS) -- You've probably heard about the "Pokémon Go" game sweeping the nation, and perhaps even the warnings about potential dangers.

But the app can also lead you to something good, beyond the virtual prizes.

CBS 2's Jeremy Ross reports on following the path to a higher calling.

In the real world, the sign reads Parkview Christian Church.

But on cell phones it's recognized as one of two "Pokestops," helping about two dozen payers collect and battle on "Pokémon Go."

Some homeowners or business shy away from this sudden and unexpected gaming traffic.

But pastor Dan Leverance helped set up an area for players.

"It's given us a chance to connect with students who have never driven in our parking lot before," he says.

Most are here to simply get out, get active and connect with community.

The church knows this may be the closest some get to attending services, but they're OK with that, so long as others collect smiles in the process.

The church has plans to offer a similar event next month.

Meantime, this Sunday at 2 p.m. a meet up is scheduled to take place in Millennium Park. More than 8,000 on Facebook say they will attend.
