(CBS) — Members of the civil rights group Blacktivists came together in front of the Chicago Police Department’s Homan Square building this afternoon to honor Sandra Bland, one  year after her death, and call for more police accountability.

The group passed around petitions to put a Civilian Police Accountability Council ordinance to a Chicago City Council vote.

Resident Maureen Kelaher says Blacktivists are ready for real change when it comes to police officers being held accountable.

Blacktivists say they plan to hold a large rally later this month at Malcom X College to protest police injustice in the city and around the country.
