11 Wounded In Shootings Monday Across Chicago
CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least 11 people, including a 13-year-old boy, were wounded in shootings in less than 12 hours Monday across Chicago.
The boy was among two people shot in a drive-by attack at 5:27 p.m. on the Near West Side.
He and a 21-year-old man were standing in the 100 block of North Wood when a dark-colored vehicle drove by and someone inside began shooting, according to Chicago Police. The boy was shot in the hand and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized. The man suffered a graze wound to the head and declined treatment.
Monday's latest shooting happened about 8:35 p.m. in the Lakeview neighborhood on the North Side. Witnesses heard gunfire and then found a 27-year-old man in an alley in the 3200 block of North Racine with a gunshot wound to the left side of the neck, police said. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.
Earlier Monday afternoon, a 20-year-old man was shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side. He was in the 4400 block of South Paulina about 4:45 p.m. when someone in a passing SUV shot him in the leg, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.
At 2:37 p.m., a 15-year-old boy and two men were shot in the 1600 block of West Garfield, in a separate Back of the Yards neighborhood attack. The two men and boy took themselves to Saint Bernard Hospital. The teen was shot in the hand and a 32-year-old man was shot in the hip, police said. Both their conditions stabilized. Another man, 21, was shot in the abdomen. He was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.
Less than 30 minutes earlier, a 25-year-old man was shot in the West Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side. It happened at 2:09 p.m. in the 3900 block of West 68th Street, police said. The man was shot in the head and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.
About 2 p.m., a 48-year-old man was walking in the 3400 block of West Flournoy in the East Garfield Park neighborhood when someone fired shots, striking him in the right leg, police said. He was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital.
Earlier Monday, a man was shot in the South Chicago neighborhood. The 30-year-old showed up at Trinity Hospital about 10:30 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the arm, police said. He told investigators he'd been shot in the 8300 block of South Saginaw but was otherwise uncooperative.
About 9:30 a.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in the lower back in the 600 block of South Homan in East Garfield Park, police said. He took himself to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where his condition stabilized.
At least 51 people were shot in the city over the weekend.
