City Has Repaved More Than 100 Miles Of Streets This Year
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The city's top streets boss says crews are making very good progress in the street re-paving and reconstruction season.
Chicago Department of Transportation Commissioner Rebekah Scheinfeld says crews have paved more than 100 miles of main streets and side streets so far this year.
"Over the past five years, we've paved more than a quarter of the city's streets…more than 1,400 miles citywide," she says.
Next week, the city will be kicking off more than 40 miles worth of additional arterial paving.
"You'll see crews working on Yates Blvd., MLK, Pershing, California, Central Park, Washington, Kedzie and Broadway," she says.

Scheinfeld says about half of the paving has been completed by CDOT crews, and half by the Department of Water Management and private utilities when new water mains or sewers are put in.
She also says, thanks to the work done over the past five years, there were 25% fewer potholes this past year.
