Another Bat Found, OB Unit Delays Reopening

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The obstetrics unit at a south suburban hospital has still not reopened after a rabid bat was found there almost two weeks ago.

Last Friday, Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights said they would reopen the OB unit on Monday.

The unit is still closed, because another bat was found in the obstetrics unit over the weekend, a Palos Community Hospital spokesman said.

"Expert wildlife remediation consultants continue to work onsite," said the spokesman. The OB unit will stay closed until they are assured the problem is "fully remediated."

No patient or staff was in contact with the bats.
