CHICAGO (CBS) — A goose is recovering at a wildlife hospital after a group of kids attacked the bird in Batavia.

It happened during the Bulldog Boosters Corn Boil fundraiser at Batavia High School on Friday. An intern with the Fox Valley Wildlife Center witnessed a group of kids attacking and kicking a wild goose.

The goose was taken to the center, then transferred to the Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn.

Willowbrook Wildlife Center spokeswoman Emily Milleville said the goose suffered neurological damage, trauma to its wings and body, and a neck injury.

“Chances are he’ll stay here with us. We’ve got a full-time vet on staff here. So he’s in our intensive care unit, and our goal is to get him healthy enough to release into a forest preserve,” she said.

Milleville said the goose is standing and eating, and likely will recover.

The wildlife center treated 9,000 animals last year.

Meantime, Batavia Police and Illinois Conservation Police are on the lookout for the group of kids that attacked the goose.
