Waukegan Man Charged With Homicide In Antioch Overdose

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A north suburban man has been charged with selling the drugs that led to another man's fatal overdose earlier this summer near Antioch.

Darrin S. Reed, 32, was arrested Thursday and charged with drug-induced homicide, according to the Lake County sheriff's office.

Joseph Bond, 25, was found dead of a heroin overdose June 13 in the 26000 block of West Catalpa Road in unincorporated Antioch, sheriff's police said.

Detectives tracked the drugs to Reed, who was initially arrested and charged with numerous drug-related felonies June 15 after a search of his home in the 600 block of North Martin Avenue in Waukegan. Authorities found 22 grams of heroin and $6,000 in cash, police said.

After the investigation into Bond's death was completed, an arrest warrant was issued Thursday and Reed was hit with additional counts of drug-induced homicide and delivery of a controlled substance, police said. He was ordered held on a $950,000 bond and is due in court again Friday morning.

The arrest was part of "Operation Front Line," an ongoing initiative by the sheriff's office targeting drug dealers this summer in northwestern Lake County.
