IPRA Successor To Be Called 'Civilian Office On Police Accountability'
(CBS) -- The new agency tasked with investigating police misconduct will be called the Civilian Office on Police Accountability, CBS 2 has learned.
COPA would take the place of the soon-to-be abolished Independent Police Review Authority, or IPRA.
Mayor Emanuel has been working with aldermen to replace IPRA following a series of police-misconduct cases that called into question the panel's effectiveness.
Under a proposed ordinance, a new inspector general for public safety would be created. That position would be separate from COPA, 32nd Ward Ald. Scott Waguespack tells CBS 2.
