1 Killed, 6 Wounded In Wednesday Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One man was killed and six others were wounded in shootings across Chicago Wednesday.

The 21-year-old man was found shot to death early Wednesday in the Albany Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side, according to Chicago Police. Officers responding about 4:50 a.m. to a call of a person down in the 4400 block of North Albany found him lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office has not yet released his name.

Wednesday's latest nonfatal shooting happened about 5:20 p.m. in the North Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

Two men, ages 25 and 27, were standing outside in the 1400 block of North Waller when a person approached and started shooting, according to police. Both men suffered gunshot wounds to the left leg and were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Wednesday morning, a man was grazed by a bullet in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. The 27-year-old was on the street in the 700 block of North Kilbourn about 7:55 a.m. when a person began shooting in his direction, police said. He suffered a graze wound to his right foot and refused medical attention.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member and he was shot by a "known offender."

Several hours earlier, a man was shot in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side. The 30-year-old was standing with a group of people at 1:20 a.m. in a lot in the 6200 block of South Vernon when a male fired shots from a gangway, police said. He was shot in the left buttock and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Fifteen minutes earlier, a man was shot in the Northwest Side Portage Park neighborhood. The 27-year-old was in a vehicle stopped in traffic at 1:05 a.m. in the 3500 block of North Laramie when he got into an argument with someone in another vehicle nearby, according to police. Shots were fired and the man was struck in the knee. He was taken to Community First Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.

Wednesday's first shooting happened about three minutes earlier in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. A 21-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk at 1:02 a.m. in the 3900 block of West Gladys when someone shot at him from a red SUV, police said. He suffered a graze wound to the left foot and was taken to Loretto Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
