Overnight Lane And Ramp Closures Begin Monday On I-88 In Aurora

AURORA (CBS) -- Temporary overnight lane and ramp closures for bridge construction are scheduled to start Monday on the Reagan Memorial Tollway in west suburban Aurora, according to the Illinois Tollway.

Electronic message signs and construction signage will alert drivers to the construction, where crews are installing.beams for the Farnsworth Avenue Bridge over the eastbound side of I-88, officials said.

One eastbound lane on I-88 will close at 7 p.m. Monday, followed by a second at 10 p.m. Then at 10:30 p.m., intermittent full closures of eastbound I-88 lanes will begin, each lasting 10 minutes, according to Illinois Tollway.

On Farnsworth Avenue, one southbound lane will close overnight beginning at 7 p.m. and the southbound ramp to eastbound I-88 will close at 10 p.m., Illinois Tollway said. Drivers will be able to access eastbound I-88 on the Eola Road Interchange.

All lanes and the southbound ramp are scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. on Tuesday, according to Illinois Tollway.

Additionally, the exit ramp connecting eastbound I-88 to northbound Farnsworth Avenue and the entrance ramp connecting northbound Farnsworth Avenue to westbound I-88 are closed for removal with traffic detoured through late fall, Illinois Tollway said.

The construction is part of the Farnsworth Avenue Interchange Project in Aurora which is expected to be complete in spring of 2017. It includes the construction of a new bridge, ramp configuration, installation of energy-efficient LED lighting and a pedestrian and bicycle path across the bridge, according to Illinois Tollway.
