Former Teacher Charged With Child Porn For Camera In School Restroom

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A former music teacher and track coach at a Near North Side school has been charged with eight felonies, after allegedly hiding a camera in a public restroom at the school.

Police said 41-year-old Elliott Nott placed a motion-activated video camera in a restroom at Ogden International School. The camera was discovered on Sept. 7.

After the camera was discovered, the school conducted a full sweep of the campus at 24 W. Walton St., as well as another campus on the West Side, and no other cameras were found.

"This device is not designed to send information, so we are confident that no images were transmitted by the device," Ogden International School principal Michael Beyer said in a letter to parents after the camera was found. Beyer said in letters to parents that the device was found in a faculty restroom.

Nott, who taught music and coached track and cross country at Ogden, was later fired by the school. He was arrested Wednesday and questioned by detectives.

Early Friday, police said Nott had been charged with seven felony counts of unauthorized videotaping, and one felony count of child pornography.

Nott's bond was set at $75,000 on Friday. If released, he would be confined at home on an electronic monitoring system.
