Man Dies 3 Months After Being Struck By Trains In Garfield Ridge

(CBS) -- A man has died three months after he was struck by two trains while riding his bicycle in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Nicholas Fox, 53, was pronounced dead at 3:59 a.m. Sunday at Kindred Hospital in Northlake, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

About 9:30 p.m. June 26, Fox rode his bike around warning signals and onto the tracks on South Narragansett Avenue near West 59th Street and was struck by an eastbound BNSF train, authorities said. The eastbound train then pushed him into a westbound train.

Fox, of the 5600 block of West 63rd Street, was initially taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after the crash and was later transferred to Kindred Hospital, authorities said. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.

According to a GoFundMe account set up to raise money for Fox's recovery, he worked at Obbie's Pizza in the 6600 block of West Archer Avenue. He was riding his bicycle back from the St. Daniel's carnival when he was struck by the train, according to the page.
