Loop Gets New Bigger Polling Place For Early Voting
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago voters who plan to cast their ballots before Election Day can take advantage of a new polling place downtown.
A former Walgreen's drug store at 15 W. Washington St. is now home to 140 voting machines. The super site can handle upwards of 4,500 voters a day during early voting in Chicago, which started Sept 29 at the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners' offices at 69 W. Washington St.
The new site at 15 W. Washington St. now serves as the city's central polling place during early voting for the upcoming presidential election.
"If voters do have their minds made up, come out and vote," said Chicago Board of Election Commissioners chairwoman Marisel Hernandez.
She said the new location will help handle the large presidential election turnout the board expects.
"This will triple our capacity for the rush we always see during the final week of early voting," she said.
Early voting in the wards begins Oct. 24. The new site in the Loop is open 7 days a week through Nov. 7.
