Indiana State Police Seek Truck Driver In Fatal Hit-And-Run

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Indiana State Police were searching for a truck that killed a mother of two from Lombard on Monday, after she pulled over on I-65.

Nika Trippi, 30, pulled onto the shoulder in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 near Fair Oaks, about 70 miles from Chicago, and got out of her Chevy Suburban around 10:45 a.m. to check on a noise, possibly from a tire, when she was hit by a passing semi-tractor trailer.

"We're asking anybody that has information on the crash, the semi to please call the Indiana State Police; and the vehicle that we're looking for by witnesses was described as an older model Freightliner, gray in color, pulling an enclosed box trailer, also gray in color," Indiana State Trooper Master Sgt. James Strong said.

Trippi was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the truck never stopped after hitting her. Trippi's mother and two children were in the Suburban at the time, but were not hurt.

Anyone with information about the incident can call Indiana State Police at 219-696-6242.
