After The Bell: Stocks Lower On Soft Earnings, Lower Oil & Election Fears
(CBS) -- Stocks closed Tuesday sharply lower as falling crude oil prices and fears about a potential Democratic election sweep weighed on investor sentiment.
The S&P 500 lost 26, the NASDAQ shed 81 and the Dow Jones industrial average closed down over 200 points, settling to 18,128.
"I think there is some worry among investors as we start to unfold earnings season and that earnings may not be quite up to snuff," said Paul Nolte, portfolio manager at Kingsview Asset Management in Chicago.
He added that both the energy and technology sectors have attractive entry points right now for long-term appreciation.
