Police: 1 Killed, 9 Wounded In City Shootings Monday

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 16-year-old boy was killed and at least nine more people were wounded in shootings Monday on the city's South and West sides, according to Chicago Police.

The homicide happened about 4:45 p.m. in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side, where the teen was shot multiple times in the 1200 block of North Pulaski. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died, police said. The circumstances of the shooting were unknown, but police said it was thought to be gang-related. The Cook County medical examiner's office did not have information on the death.

The day's latest shooting happened about 11 p.m. in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. An 18-year-old was walking in the 5500 block of South Honore when two males walked up and fired shots, police said. The man was shot in the buttocks and taken to Stroger Hospital, were his condition was stabilized.

About 8:40 p.m., a 36-year-old man was wounded in a Chicago Lawn neighborhood shooting on the Southwest Side. He was walking through an alley in the 5900 block of South Maplewood when a male walked up and fired shots, police said. The man suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

About that same time, a 19-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 3600 block of West 31st Street in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side when two males walked up and opened fire, police said. He suffered gunshot wounds to the left arm and torso and his condition was stabilized at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Just after 6 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in the foot in the 10900 block of South Princeton on the Far South Side, police said. He showed up at Roseland Community Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

Three men were shot about 4 p.m. in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side, where they were sitting in a vehicle in the 1300 block of South Central Park Avenue and someone outside opened fire, police said. A 22-year-old man shot in the side and grazed in the face was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, as was a 32-year-old man with gunshot wounds to the back and hip. The third man, 26, was shot in the buttocks and foot. He was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital.

At 3:22 p.m., a 19-year-old man was shot in the leg when someone opened fire as he drove in the 5700 block of West Cortland in the West Side Austin neighborhood. He was taken in good condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park.

Monday's first shooting happened about 8:15 a.m. in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side. A 21-year-old man was shot in the abdomen near 103rd and State streets and taken in serious condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.

The day's violence followed a weekend that saw 38 people shot in Chicago, eight of them fatally.
