Aroldis Chapman's Insane Stats In Longest Outing As Cub
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Cubs closer Aroldis Champman threw fireballs for 2 2/3 innings in Game 5 of the World Series on Sunday night when his team needed him most, recording an eight-out save that was the longest of his career and sealed Chicago's 3-2 win against the Cleveland Indians.
Of his 42 pitches -- his most in any outing as a Cub -- about 80 percent were 98 miles per hour or faster. Most of those were 100 or above, looking at the velocity chart from Daren Willman, MLB's Director of Baseball Research & Development.
Chapman blanked the Indians, gave up one hit and striking out four to send the series back to Cleveland, which will host Game 6 on Tuesday night with the Indians leading the series 3-2.
That give the Chapman a full day of rest, which he will no doubt appreciate.
"Chapman came in a did something he has never done before," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. "He's kinda fresh. He hasn't been overused throughout the playoffs."
