1 Killed, 11 Wounded In Wednesday Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An 18-year-old man was killed and at least 11 other people were wounded in shootings Wednesday on the South and West sides of the city, according to Chicago Police.

The 18-year-old man was in the driver's seat of a vehicle about 11 p.m., double parked in the 2400 block of South Springfield in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side, when a black SUV pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said. The man was shot in the chest and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately provide information on the fatality.

The day's latest nonfatal shooting happened about 9:40 p.m. in the Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side. A 23-year-old man was sitting in the driver's seat of a parked vehicle in the 6800 block of South Stony Island Avenue when a male walked up and fired shots, police said. The man was shot in the neck and right ear and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.

About 8 p.m., a clerk shot an 18-year-old man multiple times when he tried to rob Gresham neighborhood store in the 8100 block of South Racine, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in critical condition.

About the same time, someone in a vehicle driving through the East Garfield Park neighborhood's 100 block of South Springfield shot a 16-year-old boy in the leg, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Another drive-by shooter wounded four men about 4 p.m. in the 3400 block of West Monroe in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said. A 23-year-old man was shot in the head and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, along with a 20-year-old in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and a 27-year-old grazed in the arm who was listed in good condition. The fourth victim, 24, was shot in the arm and taken to Mount Sinai in fair condition.

Thirty minutes earlier, someone walked up to a 17-year-old boy and shot him in the leg in the 600 block of South Karlov in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood. He was taken to Mount Sinai in good condition after the domestic-related shooting, police said.

About 12:30 p.m., a 13-year-old boy was shot in the leg in the 2800 block of South Trumbull in another Little Village attack. His condition was stabilized at Mount Sinai, police said.

At 11 a.m., someone in a silver crossover vehicle shot a 26-year-old man near 108th Street and Sangamon in the Morgan Park neighborhood before taking off north on Halsted on the Far South Side, police said. The victim was taken to Christ Medical Center in good condition.

Wednesday's first shooting happened about 8:20 a.m. in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side. A van pulled up to a 25-year-old man in the 1500 block of South Komensky and someone inside shot him in the leg, police said. He drove himself to Mount Sinai, where he was listed in good condition.

Additionally, a 28-year-old man was shot in the foot at 8:45 a.m. in the 500 block of North Lavergne, and a 16-year-old boy was shot in the hip at 1:11 p.m. in the 3000 block of West Lexington. Both of those shootings were thought to be accidentally self-inflicted, police said.
