Bears' Jay Cutler Happy With Election Results: 'I've Supported Trump For A While'

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (CBS) -- The Bears have largely maintained a locker room that has refrained from political conversations, but quarterback Jay Cutler said on Thursday that he's pleased with the election of Donald Trump as the next president.
"I'm happy with the results," Cutler said. "I've supported Trump for a while. I'm not going to dive into it. I know it's a sensitive issue, but I like where it's going."
Cutler hails from the state of Indiana, which is home of vice president-elect Mike Pence and was the first state to go for Trump.
While Hillary Clinton garnered major support from many present athletes, including NBA superstar LeBron James, who campaigned with her earlier this week, there have been few sports personalities to be open about their support of Trump.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick were among the most high-profile sports figures to support Trump, with Belichick even writing a letter of support to the presidential candidate. Brady's wife, Gisele Bündchen, denied the claims of her husband's support.
No Bears players had gone on record in supporting either presidential candidate prior to this election. In a Sun-Times story on Tuesday morning, players spoke about keeping political talk quiet.
"This expletive is crazy," linebacker Jerrell Freeman said to the Sun-Times, censoring himself.
The Bears' starting quarterback and longest-tenured player, Cutler wasn't shy in expressing his presidential pick.
