CHICAGO (CBS) — Today is Veterans Day, a time Americans stop to honor those who have served in the armed forces. Here in Chicago, there is a push to help vets find financial security though jobs.

At Navy Pier, a special fair was held Friday to help them find employment, CBS 2 Susanna Song reports.

Fifth-Third Bank and Career Builders sponsered the event, and some employers were looking to hire on the spot.

The bank has also offered to underwrite the cost of adpoting pets for those who suffer from post traumatic stress disorder.

Participants also took time to remember active military and veterans help fill stockings to send to troops overseas this Christmas.

Navy Petty Officer second class, Anthony Jones Jr. was looking for a logistics job and a career in supply chain management.

“The best thing to do is to propel us in the right direction … so we will be able to use our skills and further excel and be a better member of society,” he said.
