Chicago Cardinal Cupich Calls Killing Of Davis' Grandson 'Heartbreaking'

CHICAGO (AP) -- Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich calls the shooting death of U.S. Rep. Danny Davis' 15-year-old grandson "heartbreaking."

Cupich spoke about Javon Wilson's killing on Saturday in Rome, where he was elevated from a Roman Catholic archbishop to a cardinal. He told reporters that his "first responsibility is Chicago" and that includes the violence in the city.

Cupich says Javon's death is "very tragic." He said it was heartbreaking to see it happen and that "it's happened time and time again."

The teen was shot in the head Friday in what police say was an argument about basketball shoes. Two teens are in custody and charged with first-degree murder. They were due in bond court later Sunday.
