Getting The Biggest Bang For Your 'Black Friday' Bucks

(CBS) -- We're just four days away from the biggest shopping day of the year.

So, how do you get more bang for your buck?

CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker reports.

It's no secret "Black Friday" begins well before the end of the week.

"I've been shopping since Saturday," says Maggie Guerrero. She's still at it, encountering prices that are sometimes half off.

There are definitely bargains to be had, but smart shoppers get biggest bang for their Black Friday bucks.

"Everyone is advertising sales. Not every sale, not every item, is a great price," cautions Edgar Dworsky of Consumerworld.com.

At the top of the tip list: Compare a product's price history by using a site called camelcamelcamel.com. Dworsky says it gives consumers a "price history" by tracking the price at Amazon and other sellers for the past year.

But getting a low price on a lousy product is no real bargain, says Dworsky, so he recommends doing a Google search to check out consumer reviews.

Combine coupons with rebates and save even more money.

Dworsky says choosing the right credit card is also key: "You want a credit card that will double the manufacturer's warranty."

Tip number 5: Don't buy jewelry on Black Friday. Prices are much better around Valentine's Day.
