Northwest Side Block Plagued By Chronic Mail Mixups, Neighbors Say

(CBS) -- You're getting mail delivered, but it's not yours.

That's the problem a Northwest Side woman says she's had for several months, and she's not alone.

CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports.

Rose McDonough shows us what she says has been a constant problem for several months: the delivery of other people's mail at her apartment building. She called the Postmaster General regarding the mail delivery from the Cragin post office.

She's even documented the 12 times she's called since August, with the hope of getting the delivery problem fixed.

"This has to stop. I hope they can fix it soon," McDonough says.

McDonough learned substitute mail carriers have been doing her route after the regular postman was reassigned. She even put a note up asking the mail carrier to make sure her mail is put in her mailbox and not her neighbor's.

"I've received their unemployment from a government office, in my mailbox. The elderly couple in the front, their public aid stuff was thrown on the floor," she says.

Juan Gonzalez lives three houses away from McDonough.

"I've been receiving important stuff from other people, let's say like, title from cars as well," he says.

"We leave it there, in case they pick it up."

A U.S. Postal Service spokesperson says a regular carrier is being assigned to the route, starting Tuesday.

McDonough's mail will be monitored closely. They say they regret any inconvenience this may have caused.
