Thousands Of Homeless Kids Receive Christmas Presents

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Over a thousand homeless children experienced a taste of Christmas on Saturday on the North Side.

Dreams for Kids held Saturday its 28th annual Christmas party at the Chicago Armory at Broadway and Thorndale in the Edgewater neighborhood. With a packed house, over 1,200 homeless children received Christmas presents.

One of those kids was 4-year-old James, who received books. WBBM's Rob Hart reports.

Attorney Tom Touhy organized the party.

"Many of them are homeless," Touhy said. "Many of them are living in shelters, some of them are living in cars. So hundreds and hundreds of kids that come here today have no home of their own."

Touhy grew up poor on the West Side. Dreams for Kids is his way of giving back.
