Firefighter Critically Injured In Blaze At Justice Home

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A firefighter was critically injured battling a fire Wednesday morning at a home in southwest suburban Justice.

Fire crews responded to the fire at 10:28 a.m. in the 8800 block of West Fawn Trail, according to Roberts Park Fire Protection District Chief Jeffrey Ketchen. The fire was put out within about 10 minutes.

Roberts Park Fire Protection District Lt. Clint Sanders, 44, was critically injured in the fire, Ketchen said.

Sanders is being treated for "significant smoke inhalation" and burns to his face and hands at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to Loyola spokeswoman Kate Hedlin. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The veteran firefighter began working as a volunteer at the fire protection district in his teens, Ketchen said.

No other injuries were reported, Ketchen said. The home was deemed uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
