Sen. Tammy Duckworth Pregnant, Will Be First Senator To Give Birth In Office

(CNN/CBS) -- Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth is one of only 10 women in the history of U.S. House of Representatives to give birth while in office. But now, she's in a class all by herself.

Duckworth will become the first U.S. Senator to give birth while in office.

In late April, Duckworth expects to give birth to a girl, her second daughter.

In a statement, she said, "Bryan and I are thrilled that our family is getting a little bit bigger, and Abigail is ecstatic to welcome her baby sister home this spring.

"We are all so grateful for the love and support of our friends and family, and I want to thank the wonderful staff at both Northwestern Medicine and GW for everything they've done to help us in our decades-long journey to complete our family."

Duckworth and her husband tried multiple rounds of in-vitro fertilization before conceiving.
