Man Shot In Face, Killed In Rogers Park

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man is dead after someone kicked in the door and shot him early Saturday in Rogers Park.

Around 4:35 a.m., the 55-year-old man was in a home in the 1600 block of West Morse Avenue, near Ashland Boulevard, when another man kicked in the door and fired shots, police said.

Police said a 30-year-old woman said she was inside an apartment on the block with a 50-year-old man, when she heard a knock at the door.

The woman told police the man went to the front door, at which point the gunman kicked it open and shot him.

The woman said she did not see the gunman.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to the face and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He was identified as Albino Amador Vazquez.

No one was in custody Saturday evening and Area North detectives were investigating.

As of late Saturday afternoon, a total of four people had been killed and nine wounded in shootings around the city. Men were also killed in the 5100 block of West Ferdinand Street in Austin, in the 7300 block of South Blackstone Avenue in Grand Crossing, and in the 6000 block of South Fairfield Avenue in Chicago Lawn.

The Austin neighborhood shooting that killed Antonio Cox, 44, also involved someone shooting him in the head at the door.
