CHICAGO (CBS) — A 16-year-old boy was shot and critically wounded Tuesday afternoon in the Brainerd community, police said.

The shooting happened around 2:25 p.m. in the 9400 block of South Ashland Avenue.

The teen was standing on the sidewalk when a man came up, took out a gun, and shot him – striking him in the chest and abdomen, police said.

The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, police said.
