DEERFIELD (CBS) — A person, who is believed to be a teenager, was struck and critically injured by a hit-and-run driver in north suburban Deerfield.

It happened on Deerfield Road near Beverly Place on Friday evening, shortly after 7 p.m..

The victim was found unresponsive in the road by somebody who was passing by the area.

The victim was transported to Condell Hospital so quickly that first responders left equipment behind at the scene.

In a statement Deerfield police said: “Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Deerfield Road. The vehicle did not stop at the scene and continued on Deerfield Road. Deerfield Police are being assisted with the investigation by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team. Further information about the victim is not currently available for release.”
