Freight Train Strikes Car In Garfield Ridge Causing Road Closures

CHICAGO (CBS)-- A freight train struck a car in Garfield Ridge.

The incident took place just after 6 a.m. at Central Avenue between 54th Street and Archer Avenue.

According to Chicago police, an 18-year-old man driving a Honda Odyssey stopped on the train tracks due to a red light when the railroad crossing gates went down and the vehicle was unable to move.

Police said a freight train hit the back of the Honda, causing the vehicle to hit a Ford Explorer driver by a 32-year-old man.

Neither driver was injured. The Honda driver was issued a citation.
