Nearly 1,700 Jobs Will Be Cut From Jeep Cherokee Factory In Belvidere, Illinois

CHICAGO (CBS)-- Nearly 1,700 jobs will be cut at a Jeep Cherokee factory near Rockford.

Car maker Stellantis owns the Jeep brand.

The company announced it will cut one of two work shifts at its Belvidere, Illinois assembly plant on July 26.

A spokesperson said a global car chip shortage is partly why they had to reduce staff. It's also the reason why the plant hasn't been working on cars since late March.
