ELGIN, Ill. (CBS) — A person was found dead in the Fox River in Elgin Wednesday afternoon.

At 1:56 p.m., police and fire personnel were called to the Fox River under the Route 20 overpass for a body in the water.

A person was recovered by fire crews and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Elgin police said the investigation was ongoing Wednesday evening. Further details were not available.

UPDATE 07/13/2021 4:46 p.m.: Elgin police say the victim has been identified as Dandre Curtis of Elgin, and the preliminary cause of death was drowning.
