This Valentine's Day, skip seeing a movie and instead check out a live theatrical performance or a music concert. From classic rock legends to a performance from a comedy star, there are plenty of shows scheduled during and just after the weekend of Valentine's Day this year in Chicago. We've compiled a list of some of the top shows slated for that weekend in the Windy City, listed in chronological order; all you need to do is grab tickets in advance and schedule a baby-sitter.

So the Bard's play "Macbeth" isn't exactly the most romantic play. But if you want to see a play that is a bit off the beaten path and will be performed during the day, consider checking out "Short Shakespeare! Macbeth" at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, located on Navy Pier. The play is — you guessed it — short, clocking in at just over an hour and without an intermission. February 14, 2015, is the last day of the play's run, and two performances are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. A daytime play also gives you plenty of time for an early romantic dinner, too.

The quartet hails from Sweden and bills itself as a "no wave" band on its official Facebook page. The Mary Onettes will be stopping in Chicago as part of the band's North American tour in support of its latest album, "Portico." The show starts at 9 p.m. on February 14, 2015, and tickets are $10.
