Best Chicken Fried Steak In Chicago

Chicken fried steak is traditionally all about tenderized steak that's been breaded and fried (or pan fried in the case of country fried steak). While it's largely considered a classic dish of the American south, all sorts of cultures have their own version of this dish (think milanesa in Mexican cuisine). As such, don't be surprised to find variations of it on the menu in all sorts of restaurants, and here are five of the best renditions in the Windy City.

The Humboldt Park restaurant known as Feed may be best known for it's wonderful chicken dishes, but the establishment also has a whole array of Southern classics too, including a delicious entree of chicken fried steak. You'll find this dish a favorite among patrons during brunch, and it's perfectly cooked and served with items like cheese grits. Brunch starts at 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, so be sure to get there early.

The range of Southern-inspired Mexican cuisine is incredible at this Wicker Park hotspot; for instance, the chicken is fried here. In fact, that's the first big spin on the chicken fried steak dish: it's actually made with chicken instead of steak! And the chicken actually consists of bone-in thighs, something you won't find elsewhere. With a little bit of honey mixed in, the dish is also just a tad bit sweet, as well as spicy, because it's smothered in chorizo verde gravy, an amazing combination!

If you don't order the chicken fried steak at this Mexican breakfast and brunch place in the Uptown neighborhood, you'll probably regret your decision. You'll want to dive into this perfectly fried steak dish and lick every last bit of gravy off of it while you're at it. Pair this entree with the chilaquiles (and/or the oatmeal shake), if you're still hungry, and you've got a match made in heaven.
