Shoppers in search of very high-end designer items must stop by Chicago's own Saks Fifth Avenue. Even if you don't have a dollar to spend Saks makes for some great window shopping and dreaming. You'll find an impressive selection of designer items here and shoe lovers will not want to miss checking out their designer shoe collection, which includes the names Christian Louboutin, Valentino, and Manolo Blahnik. While you can normally find great deals at Nordstrom during their semi-annual sales, stop by Nordstrom Rack during the rest of the year to find fantastic sales on your favorite brands. While the shoe section is disorganized, at best, and will take some work to go through the vast selection, you can often find some very high-end designers at non-designer prices.

Macy's

Chicago, IL 60602
(312) 335-7700

This Macy's on State Street is the site of the original (and now defunct) Marshall Field's. While the merchandise has changed a bit since the days when Marshall Field's inhabited the space, it's still worth stopping by and checking out the huge assortment of items at Macy's. Thankfully you can still pick up a box of Chicago's own Frango Mints here. The Christmas-time window display is always impressive and worth a trip downtown, but you may also want to make a reservation for the famed Walnut Room and see the stories high Christmas tree that's in the middle of the restaurant.
