Best Language Classes In Chicago

Is visiting Christkindl markets in Germany on the holiday to do list? Is connecting with the family's Russian heritage one of the projects you plan to complete this summer? Or maybe the company is thinking of expanding to Japanese markets. Perhaps you're just looking to expand your cultural and linguistic horizons. No matter what the reason, learning a new language can open up a world of opportunities and possibilities. Instead of picking up some of the language abroad, get a head start by taking a class or an immersive language session right here in Chicago.

The Japan America Society offers several levels of classes. Even Beginner Japanese has four levels, so students can get comfortable progressing at their own speed. The same goes for Intermediate Japanese, which has two levels. Instructors are native Japanese speakers, so students age 16 and up can be sure to get an authentic learning experience. The Society also offers conversational Japanese. In addition, there are special events that range from economic lectures to a sake tasting.

Language Loop has a wide range of ways to learn Russian, which vary from classes and corporate group training to private and semi private instruction and cultural experiences. Students can stretch their learning course over a five week period, or do an intensive one-week session. Tutoring is also available to fit individual schedules. The teachers at the Language Loop for Russian are from Belarus, Moscow, Siberia, St. Petersburg and the Ukraine.

Go to the Goethe Institut for a little bit of Germany. The Institut has films and books and holds lectures and events that make it fun to practice German. It has a variety of classes that can be taken for a semester or as shorter, intensive courses. German can be learned in class, as part of a small group, online, in private or scheduled sessions to suit a corporation. The Institute stresses communication tools and applying what is taught. Students should use the materials available there, borrow from a library or pick them up at a book store.

Language Loop offers modern Arabic used in formal occasions, but it can also provide the dialect needed by a company, group or individual for specific countries such as Egypt or Iraq. Hindi is the official language of India, but there are also a variety of dialects, so check with the University of Chicago's famed South Asian Languages & Civilizations Department to see what would work for specific needs. Hindi is offered as a regular subject that begins in the fall and extends across the school's four quarters. Students are divided into two groups: enrichment and post-graduate (from any college) work.
