Best Pet-Friendly Restaurants In Chicago

Who's a good dog? Chicagoans planning a night out on the town can bring a four-legged friend with them. Thanks to the dog-friendly ordinance passed in 2007, you and Fido can both enjoy outdoor dining in many restaurants and bars in Chicago. Where should you dine with your pooch if your canine friend is not a service dog? Check out the following list of restaurants that allow dogs.

If you and your pooch want to head to a place where everybody knows your dog's name, then stop in at Bad Dog Tavern. Located in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood, the tavern includes a dog wall of fame that proudly displays patrons' canine friends. Dogs are allowed on the tavern's outdoor patio. You can also linger over brunch at Bad Dog, or have appetizers, burgers, salads and more. Wash down your meal with the tavern's selection of martinis named after dogs, including the Black Lab, Yellow Lab and Greyhound. Bad Dog also offers wine and cocktail drinks.

The restaurant also offers a number of favorite dishes, including paella, fajitas, burritos and tacos, and also has a kids' menu. You can also wash down your dinner with a selection of tequilas, margaritas and wine.

Spend some time with your dog while chowing down on Southern fare by heading to Wishbone's West Loop location. Dogs are allowed outside on the restaurant's patio, weather permitting. Let's talk food, too. The acclaimed restaurant features a number of Southern favorites, including black bean cakes, crab cakes and smoked beef brisket. Wishbone also serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, and has a special menu just for kids, too.

Before you go out for dinner with your dog, give the bar or restaurant a call to verify if you can bring your furry friend, especially if the weather is iffy. You should also call so you can be assured your dog can be accommodated at the restaurant at that time. Restaurants can be crowded and noisy during peak hours, which may be an overwhelming experience for your dog. Remember to keep your dog on a leash while in the restaurant, too.
