Best Places In Chicago To Spoil Your Dog

Just as treating a friend or close relative to something special makes you and that person feel good, the same is true when treating your best canine friend. Fortunately, more hotels and restaurants understand that relationship and are happy to accommodate their customers and canine guests. In addition, towns, forest preserves and park districts have added dog parks and commercial districts have added pet boutiques and spas. So think past the usual dog sitter, grocery-store treat and kennel the next time you want to take a mini vacation or do something special for your best canine friend.

You would expect a posh dog boutique off of Michigan Avenue's Magnificent Mile, and Tails in the City doesn't disappoint. Think of all the cute pooches that reside in the upscale Gold Coast neighborhood. But you don't have to live nearby to stop in the boutique for some of its gourmet dog treats. Even though they look as if they are drizzled with chocolate, their yummy appearance is thanks to carob because the boutique staff is knowledgeable about what is safe for dogs. The shop has cute, bone-shaped cookies and its donuts look good enough that you probably will want to try a bite (leave some for the dog). Also look for some retail brands such as Stella & Chewy's Carnivore Kisses to take back home as special treats. BTGW the store does do birthday cakes.

Instead of getting that sad look from your dog who knows you're going to leave, take your friend with you on a staycation in Chicago. The Fairmont Hotel across from Millennium Park has a Bark Near the Park deal that understands separation guilt and canine needs. You can talk to a "dog-cierge" about where the two of you might want to go. However, you also get a couple of hours of dog sitting if you want to go shopping or to the theater. Plus you don't have to bring your dog's bed or bowl because the hotel provides that. Your dog can essentially get room service, really. The dog dinner menu features salmon and chicken entrees but the deal also includes doggie biscuits and a toy. The package starts at $249 a night and covers a dog cleaning fee. The deal is limited to one dog.

There are also places for their human companions to sit and a tree-shaded area. The dog park is north of 9th street, west of Columbus Drive near the tennis courts.

There's also lots of play hours with doggie caregivers and good size space to play indoors and outside. Inside has play equipment, while outside has pools, cots and shady areas. There's even special treats such as turkey sliders which were made for the Fourth of July weekend. Among the place's best features are webcams inside and out so you can see what your dog is doing. Dogone Fun is a full-service dog facility with expert groomers, trainers and a boutique.
