Fall Into Layering: Save Money By Reusing Pieces

Fall is an incredible season for fashion. This fall, to save money, I am taking my favorite spring and summer pieces and adding a variety of layering options to update my wardrobe for the colder months.

Dresses

Carry your Spring/Summer dresses or a new fall purchase into fall by adding layers. I started with a fabulous animal print cap sleeve dress by Anne Klein at Macy's for $139. This is a great piece for summer with bare sun-kissed legs and open toe heels, but get some Fall mileage by adding a cardi in a Fall must-have hue of mustard by BDG as found at Urban Outfitters for $39. Next, cinch your waist by adding this fabulous Kimchi Blue Floral Filigree stretch belt over the cardigan and dress, also from Urban Outfitters, $24.

Instead of bare legs in the crisp autumn air try some economically savvy opaque tights from Gap in aubergine ($12.95). Set aside those open toe sandals for a closed round toe in a very current, camel patent platform pump from Aldo for a sale price of $44.99. Explore with a variety of print or solid dresses, hues and patterns of cardigans and tights, and the wide array of closed toe fall shoes to treat your tootsies.

Light Jeans and Blouse

Don't pack away your lightweight jean leggings and blouses just yet! Add some fun fall layers to spice up your warm weather wears. Start with your lightweight jean leggings you rocked all summer with thong sandals. I found these lightweight jeggings at Gap for $49.95. During the summer you might have paired this with a fun tank, like one from Forever 21 in a fun bright tribal print for $17.80.

Parlay those pieces into a Fall look by adding an edgy faux leather bomber like this one by Sparkle and Fade at Urban Outfitters for $99. Strap on fabulous riding boots over the jean leggings. I found an affordable option by BP through Nordstrom for $129.95. Top off the look with this Staring at the Stars Marled beanie from Urban Outfitters for $19. Have fun and think outside the box with this look too, there is a multitude of jackets and boots this Fall to mix and match with your lighter jeans and blouses!

Shorts and Rompers

Do you still want to be able to wear your shorts through out the fall? Well don't worry, I have some great ideas to jockey those pieces into your fall adventures. I started with this fabulous crochet trimmed ivory romper by PJ (Peter Jensen) at Urban Outfitters ($59). Next I added a chunky knit cardigan in the "it" rust tone for a steal at Forever 21 ($29.50). To keep your gams warm and fashion forward, I added these playful brown and peacock tights from Modcloth for $29.99. Top off this uber comfortable uber chic look with an inexpensive blue leaf print scarf from Old Navy for $12.94. Shorts and rompers can be a year round experience just add tights and layers in the colder months all the while exploring the current hues and trends of the season!

Maxi Skirts and Dresses

I have noticed maxi-everything on the Fall 2011 runways; from coats to skirts, cardigans, to dresses. Take your maxi length skirts and dresses you died for from Spring and Summer and layer them into Fall. I found this jaw dropping romantic ivory lace tiered maxi skirt by Lucca Couture from Urban Outfitters for $79. I took it to an edgy boho-casual place by adding a nude and wheat striped boyfriend chunky sweater by American Apparel ($76). The juxtaposition is mind-bogglingly chic. Next I choose an on-trend wedge bootie from Modcloth for an ultra affordable $44.99.
